Casa Amalia is an Adults Only Guesthouse

break away from the usual hotels and stay with a local

Welcome to Casa Amalia.

Amalia is the name of our house.
Casa means house in Spanish.

Casa Amalia is a villa in Jan Thiel that has been converted into an intimate boutique-style guesthouse since 2009.
What makes our house extra nice is that we are Adults Only.

Jan Thiel Beach, several restaurants and a supermarket are within walking distance from us.

Casa Amalia is not a hotel, but the house of a local artist where you quickly feel at home.
Our house has 11 bedrooms, lots of local art and free parking.
Next to the house is a building with 8 apartments and a small swimming pool.

Our accommodations are ideal for single travelers and couples looking for a nice place (without children) to stay where they can vacation among the locals at a rate that young travelers can afford.

The difference

The difference

It’s impossible to confuse Casa Amalia with a hotel.
Casa Amalia is a house and not a hotel.
Don’t expect a lobby, a front desk, someone to carry your bags nor any other facility a hotel has.
Don’t expect 24 hours staff nor daily housekeeping either.

Our concept is very simple; you are staying at a friend's house where you are independent.

On arrival your room key will be ready with the some valueble information you'll need during your stay.

Our courtyard is cozy and here you can come in contact with the other guests and exchange tips with eachother. You can also ask Haitham any question you may have.

We have limited lounge chairs so there is never too many people around the pool. Don't forget that we are nothing for mass tourism.

Our property is small which makes is easy to make new friends here.

If he's not traveling you will meet Haitham, the owner.
He can talk a lot about his arts and his native island Curaçao.

If you still can't see the difference between Casa Amalia and hotel than you need to visit an eye doctor.

House of Art

House of Art

The Amalia concrete statues are all handmade by Haitham and they adorn our courtyard, while the clay figurines are exhibited in our livingroom with other local arts.

Amalia is an elegant Curaçao lady.

As an adults only guesthouse Casa Amalia is also the perfect place to exhibit Haitham's penises he named "Mi Dòlò" meaning my penis.

From time to time we open our door to the public with an exihibition.

Jan Thiel Beach

Jan Thiel Beach

Jan Thiel Beach is one of Curaçao's most beloved beaches, and it's located at just 1 kilometer from us. That's  less than 2 minutes drive or 20 minutes walk.

Here you enjoy sun, sea, sand with cocktails, food, watersports, beach tennis, diving, sailing and even nightlife.
On Saturday nights it's the place to be as everyone comes here to enjoy life music, and dancing with barefeet in the sand under the palm trees and the stars.

Diner

Diner

We don't have a restaurant at Amalia, but there are many fine restaurants in our area where you can enjoy a nice diner like restaurant Tabooshh.

Breakfast, lunch or diner

Breakfast, lunch or diner

We don't have a restaurant on site.
We recommend Brisa Do Mar where you can enjoy good breakfast, lunch and diner with a beatiful view of the Caracasbaai Bay.
On Fridays the have happy hour with live music.

Events

Events

Our courtyard is also the venue for art exibitions and small casual receptions.

Don't be surpised if you see us getting ready for an event.
Our guest can also join some events, but we will let our guests now which events are private and which are open to join.

Every last Sunday of the month we open our doors for the public to come and enjoy our exhibition.
You are welcome to join us.

Meet Haitham

Meet Haitham

This is Haitham.
He's the owner of Casa Amalia.

Haitham was born on Curaçao in the year 1969.
He's the father of Emile (19) and Danielle (15).

His father is the son of Lebanese imigrants and his mother has Spanish and South American roots.

In his younger years he worked for 5 years as flight attendant so he could travel the world.
Today Haitham is an entrepreneur, a sculpor, a politician and he still loves to travel when he can and make friends from all parts of the world.
All the concrete statues and ceramic clay sculpters adorning our living room and courtyard are made by Haitham.
Haitham also has a more daring line of sculptures which we can not show you here, but are exhibited in our living room. Remember that Casa Amalia is for Adults Only!

The kitchen of our house is Haitham's office and you will find him there behind his computer in his shorts and tank top.

You are always welcome for a chat.

L.G.B.T.

L.G.B.T.

In honor of our Dutch friend Sasha who fights for gay rights.

There is no reason why we shouldn't be hosting guests from the LGBTQ community at Casa Amalia.

So just to make it clear to everyone: at Casa Amalia guests from the LGBTQ community are most welcome!

Car Rental

Car Rental

Curaçao has many beautiful beaches to enjoy.
Who wants to spend their vacation in a room? Rent a car and explore our island.

We have often seen how people opt for cheap rental cars and when things went wrong, things went very wrong and expensive for these geusts.

We recommend GH Car Rental.
They are reliable, they have good service and they offer new cars.
All cars have air conditioning.

Tip: always take all risk insurance regardless of who you rent from. It doesn't matter what kind of insurance you have.

Be aware that KIA Picanto and KIA Rio are the most stolen car model on the island.

By the way Maps.me is the off line navigation app that works best for Curaçao.

Our guests are those who want to stay at a local place where they can feel at home.

Our guestes are independent.
Our guests leave tips for the person who cleans their room.
